National Touring Program
First Mardi Gras 78ers are working in partnership with Museums of History NSW to deliver a touring exhibition across multiple locations. Museums of History NSW have received funding of $254,073 from Visions of Australia to design and produce the exhibition. FMG will contribute to content and imagery and liaise with local 78ers and Pride organisations about local participation.
The exhibition will feature the rise of global civil rights activism in the late 1960s and 1970s and the early Pride movement in Australia, setting the scene for the first Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in 1978. The exhibition will reflect on the events of 1978 and the significant law reforms achieved in following years. New audio-visual resources will be created for the exhibition.
Confirmed locations to date include Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Daylesford, Leeton, Tamworth, Gosford, Albury and Wagga Wagga. Additional locations are being considered.
